Ports and waterways

article

The major part of the world population lives along rivers and in coastal and delta areas; most of world industrial activities take place here. The infrastructure and water systems in these areas provide important opportunities for economic development, transport and recreation. At the same time flooding by rivers and sea is a threat to the environment and further economic growth.

Integral development of coastal and river areas is an ever more complex undertaking as population densities increase. Aspects of quality of life, economic development, ecology and safety must all be taken into account in a balanced way. DHV has extensive experience in ports, waterways, flood protection and all related maritime infrastructure. Local interests and objectives are essential components of our projects.
